Porsche Taycan 2020. (Review)
Porsche Taycan Overview!
Porsche's first electric car is a sleek sports sedan that fully lives up to the brand's high-performance reputation. The 2020 Porsche Taycan (pronounced tie-Kahn) delivers incredible acceleration, precise handling, and aggressive styling. The Turbo makes 670 horsepower, while the Turbo S ratchets up the intensity with 750 horsepower. Both models have an all-wheel-drive using front and rear electric motors powered by a 93.4-kWh battery pack. The Taycan rides on standard air springs and adaptive dampers, while available four-wheel steering and active anti-roll bars further sharpen its agility.
The Taycan is the first production EV to use a two-speed transmission and an 800-volt electrical system, which allows for quicker acceleration and shorter recharge times, respectively.
The Taycan is the first real challenger to the Tesla Model S. In practice, Porsche and Tesla have unique advantages that should steer buyers toward an easier decision. The Model S offers a greater driving range, a more practical package, and access to a sprawling network of fast-charging stations. The Porsche's priority is performance above all else, with range and interior space as secondary concerns.
EPA range figures haven't been released for the 2020 Taycan, the estimate of the Turbo model will have an EPA range around 270 miles, while the Turbo S model is around 225 miles.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Given the Taycan's low and sleek roofline, the interior proves surprisingly spacious. The Porsche doesn't feel nearly as cavernous as that of a Tesla Model S, but a six-footer can fit comfortably in both the front and rear seats. A four-seat configuration is standard, while a third center-rear seat (offering a total of five seats) is a $480 option. Tellingly, Porsche calls this configuration a 2+1 arrangement, because that center rear seat is only for short people doing short stints. The Taycan's cargo space measures 17 cubic feet, which is divided between the trunk and a small front compartment that accommodates a single carry-on-size bag.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The Taycan is equipped with automated emergency braking, forward-collision warning, and lane-keeping assistance as standard. Porsche's a la carte options menu includes additional safety features such as adaptive cruise control $2050, front and rear parking sensors $1200, and blind-spot monitoring $950. Porsche's InnoDrive $3610 is an advanced form of cruise control that slows down for curves and when you have a destination programmed in the navigation system, upcoming turns. Key safety features include:
