The Porsche Taycan might be one of the most anticipated EVs of 2019 - but we still don't know a lot about it. This car was first unveiled back in 2015 as a concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show. At that time it was known as the Mission E - but recently its name was changed to the Porsche Taycan (Tie-con) and yes, that’s how you say it.

So here’s what we know about this car so far -
0-60 acceleration in under 3.5 seconds
Top speed of 155mph
600hp
300 mile range
80% charge in under 15 minutes with DC fast charging

And the price is still up in the air, but according Robert Meier, the Taycan model director, it will be priced “somewhere between a Cayenne and a Panamera” which is around $75,000 -- This puts it in competition with the Model S which starts at $79,000 as of Thursday.

And this is definitely the goal with this car - compete with the luxury EV market that the Model S has completely cornered.

This car definitely has some interesting features as well, with inductive charging sticking out the most. Similarly to putting your smartphone on a wireless charging pad, you will literally be able to pull this car into the garage and have it start charging - without even plugging it in!

This is definitely the next step in vehicle charging - removing the steps necessary to charge your car so you don’t even have to think about it. So I’m glad they have been forward thinking in that regard.

Now moving to the design - just like the initial Model X design, porsche is trying to get rid of the side view mirrors, but they are planning on having a virtual exterior mirrors that will be shown in the lower windshield area. And you can actually see a little preview of this in some of the images on their site. Which I’ll link below if you want to check it out after you’re done watching.

I don’t know if they’ll be able to get away with this just on the safety side of things, but if they’re able to pull it off it’ll definitely make the car look a lot cleaner.

They’ve also opted for suicide rear doors, and I’m not sure what the advantage of this is besides making it easier to get into the back seat, but I’m definitely a fan - and it looks sweet.

Unfortunately if you want this car, you’re going to have to wait a little. It is expected to go into production this year, but deliveries probably won’t start until the end of this year or 2020. If you want to reserve one - there’s a link on their website to fill out some information and start the deposit process with your local dealer.

So not a lot of details have been revealed, and we still haven’t seen a full production model being driven, only concepts. So we’ll see what the future brings, but it’s very exciting to see another major auto manufacturer join the EV game.

My goal this year is to create 50 videos. Each week I'll be talking about a topic related to electric cars, and I would love to hear what you want to learn about. Leave a comment below!
