In 1963, Paul, George and Ringo flew to Santa Cruz, Tenerife for a 12 day holiday.
This trip was shortly before Beatlemania swept the planet and one of their last carefree times in public without being recognized.
In fact, the Beatles were so new to the music scene that, when they asked if they could play some of their songs in a Puerto de la Cruz bar, the manager refused.
Paul, George and Ringo stayed with Klaus Voormann, whose family owned a villa on the island. Astrid Kircherr was also present.
They lounged around the pool and when the sun got too hot, they drove around the island in a convertible Austin Healey.
On their return to the UK, the ‘Please Please Me’ album went to No.1 on May 11, 1963. It stayed there for the rest of the year.
