Lady Gaga, an actress, producer, and musician, discusses the making of The Rolling Stones' most recent hit, "Sweet Sounds of Heaven," on which she and Stevie Wonder worked together.
The song, which was released 18 years after "Hackney Diamonds," is the second single from the British band's debut album after "Angry."
While they were recording at Henson Studios in Los Angeles, California, Gaga posted a video on Instagram and claimed that the collaboration was not prearranged.
When Gaga was getting ready to record the soundtrack for the movie "Joker," in which she also acted, the iconic singer Mick Jagger unexpectedly approached her and asked to meet her.
Stevie and Mick were both recording in the same studio with their band, which featured Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood as the frontmen.
"Someone told me that night as I was leaving for home, 'Mick wants to see you.' I entered the studio at the opposite end of the hall and opened the door because I only knew one Mick. This is a doorway to the 1970s. I ran across Mick, Keith, and Ronnie," stated Gaga.
Along with all the artists they worked with, Stevie Wonder was present.
The 13-time Grammy winner claimed that initially, they were just "hanging out" and talking while listening to music.
Mick then inquired as to Gaga's desire to remain in the studio as The Rolling Stones recorded a new song.
Gaga added that she made a concerted effort to study the notes at the moment and listen to the music intently. She then performed a "freestyle" and sang along with the legends.
I try not to go overboard because I don't want my singing to undo the magic they've worked so hard to build. While Stevie was playing, the Rhodes was forcefully vibrating against my back, and each note was causing my entire body to tremble.
Gaga claimed that she was "a little crazy" and in disbelief that everyone was thrilled to have her there after they played for several hours.
From there, "Sweet Sounds of Heaven," their most recent song, was born. After that evening, Gaga left for home without considering any possible collaborations.
The following day, Gaga received a message from the record's producer Andrew Watt informing her that Mick wanted to use her voice on the track.
"I think about my favorite old Stones songs and all the great vocalists Mick sang with, creating what we know today as a unique "sound" for a band that defined a rock'n'roll masterpiece," Gaga remarked.
With Mick, I sing in a way I've never sang before, he continued.
On October 20, 2023, the album "Hackney Diamonds" is slated for release. Along with Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder, other artists who contributed to this album include Bill Wyman, Paul McCartney, and Elton John.
