"I mean, we all knew it was coming. We're not stupid. So, that is really why I wanted to open the show. To remind the people that in the fashion industry, which is one of the most harmful industries to the planet, and we're acting like it isn't when nobody's really having the conversation. So I just wanted to have a polite reminder that everything that you see on that runway is sustainable and is going to help provide a solution for the issues that we all share. Yeah, I'm trying to stay positive about it though, so it's not looking bright."

"You know, it's really hard to say. I love obviously all of them. There's one that's just a simple white square mini dress that just for me is so effortless and timeless, which I think is also part of the conversation of sustainability. If you can make the perfect piece that can stay in your wardrobe forever and actually accumulate in value, if you ever want to resell or, you know, rent it out. That's one of my favorites. But I love the lead-free crystals at the end. Those diamond dresses I just think are like dreamy. I love the tailoring. I'm a massive... I love the tailored pants, the black suit with the cummerband coming up through the pants and the diamonds. I want to wear a lot of it. So, I feel happy about that."

"I think we are the only house in the world with the only luxury house in the world that doesn't use feathers, for example, or, exotic skins. We don't use any PVC. We're one of the only people that doesn't do that. So we're providing solutions to everything. You know, even the sequins, sorry, sequins have PVC in them. And every other runway you've seen over these months and ever, you know, apart from us, we're trying to also give people information. I think information is power. And so that's why when you look at our eco fact sheet or, you can go online to our website and you can see all of the solutions that we've got. There's so many."

STORYLINE:
Stella McCartney's message was clear as Monday's Paris sky was blue: Glamour need not come at the earth’s expense.

The designer's fall/winter collection began with an expletives-laden film made from recycled materials played on Sony screens, voiced by Oscar winners Olivia Colman and Helen Mirren, inviting the world to protect Mother Earth.

Cue sequins made from recycled aluminum, loopy wool coatdresses (one modeled by Kate Moss’ daughter Lila Moss) that resembled the ‘new fur coat,’ and alternative leather handbags, alongside alternative leather accessories and mock-croc trench coats fashioned from Appleskin - a vegan leather made from apple waste.


McCartney again emphasized how the fashion sector contributes to 2-8 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, underlining the urgency for change.
