Good evening my beautiful friends.

This weeks cover song is #SillyLoveSongs by #PaulMcCartney & #Wings.

For those of you who followed me on my journey through these cover songs and followed me on Facebook will know I once did this very early on during the direct to video days. I always wanted to try and record this properly and always wanted the female BV’s (Linda’s parts) to not be me singing high. So I convinced my wife to try, she did so well for her first time on harmonies.

Now I’ve been sitting on this song for at least 6 months waiting for the perfect time to release it and this time has finally come. Last week my family and I plus all my in laws went on holiday to my childhood happy place of #Lincolnshire. For those of you who watched my video of the song ‘Fatal hesitation’ you’ll know why I love this part of my country. Due to my family ties to the area. We had a wonderful week there, especially in my grandparents home town of #Mablethorpe. My brother and his family came up for their own holiday (in a different set of accommodation) and finally my dad decided to come up for the weekend too, so it was the first time ever I’ve been able to get a full picture of my immediate living family all together. It happened to be in Mablethorpe too, so that makes the memories even better for me. So the perfect song to use to show the amount of love I experienced last week was to finally dust off this classic song.

Now the song itself is one of my fave Macca tunes. It’s so damn clever with such a wonderful and intricate bass line. Of course you should have realised with my love of all things Paul McCartney that my channel is a play on the title of this song, hence “Silly Cover Songs”. If you listen closely to the end of this song I’ve even altered the lyrics to show that.

"Silly Love Songs" was written as a rebuttal to music critics (as well as John Lennon) who had criticized McCartney for writing lightweight love songs. Author Tim Riley suggests that in the song, McCartney is inviting "his audience to have a laugh on him," as Elvis Presley had sometimes done.

But over the years people have said, "Aw, he sings love songs, he writes love songs, he's so soppy at times." I thought, Well, I know what they mean, but, people have been doing love songs forever. I like 'em, other people like 'em, and there's a lot of people I love -- I'm lucky enough to have that in my life. So the idea was that "you" may call them silly, but what's wrong with that?

The song was, in a way, to answer people who just accuse me of being soppy. The nice payoff now is that a lot of the people I meet who are at the age where they've just got a couple of kids and have grown up a bit, settling down, they'll say to me, "I thought you were really soppy for years, but I get it now! I see what you were doing!"

By the way, "Silly Love Songs" also had a good bass line and worked well live.

— Paul McCartney, Billboard
The song includes a build-up of multiple vocal parts sung in counterpoint, similar to the Beach Boys' "God Only Knows", a song that McCartney cited as his favourite of all time. McCartney allowed the horn section to create their own parts for the song

Lyrics

You'd think that people would have had enough of silly love songs
I look around me and I see it isn't so
Some people want to fill the world with silly love songs
And what's wrong with that?
I'd like to know
'Cause here I go again
I love you, I love you
I love you, I love you

I can't explain the feeling's plain to me; can't you see?
Ah, she gave me more, she gave it all to me now can't you see?
What's wrong with that?
I need to know
'Cause here I go again
I love you, I love you

Love doesn't come in a minute
Sometimes it doesn't come at all
I only know that when I'm in it
It isn't silly, love isn't silly, love isn't silly at all

How can I tell you about my loved one?
How can I tell you about my loved one?
"I love you" over Paul's "How can I tell you about my loved one?"
"I love you" over Paul's "How can I tell you about my loved one?"

I love you
I love you
"I can't explain the feeling's plain to me, say can't you see?"
"I love you"
"Ah, he gave me all, he gave it all to me to me, say can't you see?"
"I love you"
"I can't explain the feeling's plain to me, say can't you see?"
"How can I tell you about my loved one?"
"Ah, he gave me all, he gave it all to me to me say can't you see?"
"How can I tell you about my loved one?"
"I can't explain the feeling's plain to me, say can't you see?"
"How can I tell you about my loved one?"
"Ah, he gave me all, he gave it all to me to me say can't you see?"
"How can I tell you about my loved one?"

You'd think that people would have had enough of silly love songs
I look around me and I see it isn't so, oh no
Some people want to fill the world with silly love songs
What's wrong with that?
