John Lennon was an English singer, songwriter and peace activist who rose to worldwide fame as a co-founder of The Beatles, one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands in the history of popular music. His songwriting partnership with Paul McCartney remains the most successful in musical history. During his post-Beatles years, Lennon embraced a lifestyle of domesticity and tranquillity verging on isolationism, until he moved to New York City in 1971 and resumed touring with his wife Yoko Ono. Although three of the band's albums were released after his death, these included two tracks to which Lennon had contributed.
