To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Paul McCartney’s debut solo album, I’d like to perform a beautiful song called “The Lovely Linda”.
The song that opens the album, was the very first song to be recorded and it was a brief tribute to his first wife Linda McCartney. This lovely tune was composed in Scotland during 1969, when he and Linda were living at their farm, High Park, in Campbeltown. It was finally recorded just before Christmas of that year at McCartney’s home, Cavendish Avenue, in St. Johns Wood, London.
Actually “The Lovely Linda”, just like many of the songs on the album, was recorded in a very simple way to test the Studer 4 track machine which was installed at his home. According to McCartney it was very hands-on, primitive way of working. In that track you can hear the door squeak as Linda came in while he was recording. On the first track was vocal and acoustic guitar, second – another acoustic guitar – then overdubbed hand slaps on a book, and finally bass.
Although in the press release issued with promotional copies of the album McCartney claimed a fuller song would be recorded and issued at a later date, nothing was ever released. He later said that he song just appeared as a fragmente and was quite nice for that reason.
Simple, natural, lovely! That’s how the great songs come to life.
Hope you guys enjoy this little brief song!!! Stay safe and Peace & Love everybody!!!
