Paul McCartney denies having an affair with Cynthia, John Lennon's ex-wife
John Lennon met Yoko Ono in a London gallery where she was displaying her work. The two were immediately drawn to each other, and their romance began soon after their initial meeting. Cynthia eventually caught them in bed together. The Lennon-Cynthia pair later separated, and Yoko Ono became pregnant shortly thereafter. However, Yoko Ono's first child with Lennon was miscarried and never born.
When John and Cynthia's previous marriage ended, Paul penned 'Hey Jude' - originally 'Hey Jules' - to console the couple's 5-year-old child. Cynthia assumed that John had urged all of his bandmates to stop contacting her after their divorce was finalized in 1968. Paul supposedly declined and proceeded to see Cynthia and Julian, sparking unfounded rumors of a fling between them.
In the most recent episode of Paul McCartney: A Life in Lyrics, where he discusses the composition of "Hey Jude," Paul has rejected the suggestion. Paul told his pod and book partner Paul Muldoon, "I used to call him 'Jules' when I was travelling to see Julian Lennon and his mother, Cynthia."
