On February 19th, Paul McCartney's debut solo single will be celebrating its 50th anniversary and I could not forget to pay a tribute to this amazing song!!!

"Another Day" was the first track to be recorded during the RAM album sessions. However, the song first emerged during The Beatles’ Get Back/Let It Be sessions, suggesting it was written in early 1969 or possibly the year before. McCartney performed the song solo on piano at Twickenham Film Studios on 9 January 1969, and a second attempt on acoustic guitar at Apple Studios on 25 January. It's one of McCartney’s songs about fictional people. He had written similar songs in the past, such as ‘Eleanor Rigby’ and ‘For No One’, and it was a songwriting technique he would increasingly turn to in the coming years. The lyrics tell the story of a woman living on her own in an unnamed city, locked in a mundane daily routine of going to work, coming home to an empty flat and dreaming of “the man of her dreams” who fleetingly “comes to break the spell”. Drummer, Denny Seiwell, described the song as “Eleanor Rigby in New York City”.

The recording sessions for "Another Day" took place on 12 October 1970 at Columbia Studios in New York City. Additional overdubs were taped in January 1971 the following year at the city’s A&R Studios. The basic tracks consisted of McCartney on acoustic guitar, Dave Spinozza on electric guitar and Denny Seiwell on drums, with many overdubs added in subsequent sessions (bass, percussion and several other guitar parts). Linda McCartney, provided vocal harmonies on the song. Describing his and Linda's distinctive harmonies, McCartney said "I wanted 'our' sound." Paul was deliberately attempting to create a unique McCartney style; a musical identity outside of the Beatles.

Paul McCartney insisted that the songwriting credits for "Another Day" and for more than a half of the songs on the album were to “Mr and Mrs McCartney”. As a result, half of the copyright was claimed by Maclen Music Ltd, and the other half by a new company called McCartney Inc. However, In July 1971, Northern Songs and Maclen Music sued Paul and Linda McCartney for violating an exclusive rights agreement via their musical collaborations on "Another Day". In June 1972, ATV announced that "all differences between them have been amicably settled", with McCartney's lawyers successfully arguing it had been Paul's prerogative to collaborate with whomever he chose, regardless of his or her musical abilities. Paul and Linda signed a new seven-year co-publishing contract between ATV and McCartney Music. He also agreed to take part in a television programme titled James Paul McCartney. Broadcast in 1973, it featured McCartney and Wings performing a selection of old and new songs.

"Another Day" was selected as a single not by McCartney, but on the suggestion of studio assistant Dixon Van Winkle and it's released in February 1971, with the B-side "Oh Woman, Oh Why", a blues-style rocker with rasping vocals from McCartney, which was the hardest-sounding of the RAM recordings. The song peaked at number 2 in the UK charts, and at number 5 in the US and became part of McCartney’s live repertoire during the early 90's, 2000's, and has appeared in a number of best-of compilations.

Hope you guys enjoy my humble tribute to this great song!!! Long Live Paul McCartney!!!

Stay safe and Peace & Love everybody!!!
