In 2021, Paul McCartney referred to The Rolling Stones as "a blues cover band," but rather than taking offense, Mick Jagger praised him.

In a recent interview with The Times, Jagger said, "He said the Beatles were better than the Stones because the Stones were really just a blues cover band."

Well, when they first started out, the Beatles were basically simply a blues cover band. Every band starts out as a cover band because that's how things work.

The Stones frontman continued by saying that, in order to create a huge scene, he would often pretend that someone was in the crowd when they weren't. He recalled once saying, "Paul McCartney is here tonight. He'll enter the stage and perform a few of our blues covers.

"I texted Paul to say thank you for his comment because it has given me a lot of comic material," he continued.

Despite the remarks, McCartney and The Stones are actually very close and he appears on their new album, Hackney Diamonds.

“It was fun. But it seems so natural, you know?” Jagger said about working with McCartney.

“Paul was so natural and relaxed and he enjoyed it.” he added. “We knocked it out really quick.”
