After listening to the lead guitar on this song I'm convinced Paul plugged direct in to the Abbey Road console (no amp). It has a spanky dry quality that doesn’t sound tube-like to me.
Most of his first solo album 'McCartney' was recorded at his home at Cavendish. But Maybe I'm Amazed and Every Night were done back at his old playground EMI under the pseudonym ‘Billy Martin’. I guess he wanted to keep the album a secret
I'm using my brand new USA Epiphone Casino direct into my interface to get those DI tones on the record. The second guitar was definitely plugged into a Fender Twin Reverb, as you can hear the tremolo effect. But it also has a leslie sound too. Could have been re-amped after the fact. So...
My signal chain is-
GUITAR 1: Epiphone Casino USA Royal Tan
Analogman King of Tone
Analogman Bad Bob Boost- direct into
Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 Interface
GUITAR 2: Epiphone Casino USA Royal Tan
Analogman Bad Bob Boost
Strymon Lex Leslie Simulator Pedal-
1974 Fender Silverface Pro Reverb with Vibrato (Tremolo)
I'm also using a Steinway Grand Piano Model B!
Let me know if you think the lead guitar was direct tones, or a good old Fender Amp. And also leave a comment below to tell me how I did and what other Beatles/Solo songs you'd like to hear!
Thanks
