60 years ago, the Beatles first single ‘Love Me Do’ was released, kickstarting one of the most influential periods of music and pop culture in modern history. And it all began here, in the front parlour of 20 Forthlin Road, Liverpool.
In this front room, Sir Paul McCartney and John Lennon would sit with their guitars and a school exercise book for their lyrics, and write the songs that began the Beatles – including ‘Love Me Do’. To celebrate 60 years since its first chords sounded through the house, the National Trust has invited two local bands to come and cover this iconic song in the place it was written.
Watch Liverpool-based synth band TRAITS and Neo-Jazz singer-songwriter Ni Maxine transform this famous song into new sounds for new generations. Hear ‘Love Me Do’ like you’ve never heard it before, as it comes home to 20 Forthlin Road.
Artists performing in TRAITS: Kieran McCarthy, vocals; Matthew Campbell, guitar; Daniel Davies, piano; Ben McLaughlin, tambourine and shaker; Joshua Murphy, acoustic bass.
Artists performing in Ni Maxine: Ni Maxine, vocals; Jack Lewis, guitar; Parabhen Ishwarlal, upright bass, vocals; David Kayode, tenor saxophone.
