Written August 12, 1960, the is letter is Paul's timely response to a mystery drummer who had responded to an ad which The Beatles ran August 8, 1960 in ECHO and was headlined “Drummer – Young – Free." Paul wrote this on August 12, 1960, just 3 days before The Beatles, including Pete Best and Stu Sutcliffe, embarked for Hamburg and began a yearlong run that launched the mania. The letter was sold at auction in 2011.
