Welcome to the episode 10 of UnBeatled, a channel where we take a deep dive into every single song The Beatles ever recorded, unpicking the music, the lyrics, the cultural context at the time, and the impact the song had on the band's success in the UK and the world.
In this episode, @DavidBennettPiano and Beatles aficionado and chief rock and pop critic for The Times Will Hodgkinson delve into "Dear Prudence", a song that featured on their self-titled album, also known simply as "The White Album".
It's a beautiful track built from John Lennon's fingerpicked guitar line that builds into a full Beatles production with some of their most iconic musical parts. It was written in India while they were studying transcendental meditation and is a plea to Prudence Farrow (Mia Farrow's sister) to take some time off from meditating to appreciate the scenery.
Despite the sounds of tranquillity, it is one of the few tracks which doesn't feature Ringo on the drums as he walked out during the recording.
