전설적인 영국출신의 세계적인 팝그룹 The Beatles의 멤버인 죤과 폴,
비틀즈의 대부분의 곡은 죤과 폴이 만들었다.
이곡은 폴이 일찍 돌아가신 그의 어머니 Mary를 꿈에서 보고 가사를 지었다고
하며, 그분이 예수님의 어머니, 성모 마리아인가? 에 대한 질문에 대해,
'그렇게 생각할 수 있다'고 대답했다.

Let it be는 영어해석 그대로 '그냥 내버려 두라', '순리대로 하라'이다.
이는 Amen의 어원 중의 하나인 "그리 되게 하라'(so be it)에 가깝고
그리하여 Let it be가 "주님 뜻대로 하소서"와 가깝지 않을까 하는 생각을 하게 된다.

이곡을 끝으로 The Beatles는 해체를 하고, 1980년 팀의 실질적인 리더였던
John Lenon이 암살당함으로 재결합을 원했던 많은 사람들의 바램이
물거품으로 돌아갔다.
