Soul singer Al Wilson is best known for his 1973 cover of Johnny Mathis's 'Show And Tell' which reached #1 in the US and sold over 2 million copies, though it never charted in the UK.
Wilson's only UK chart entry was a reissue of The Snake' #41 in 1975, where it had been very popular on the 'northern soul' scene. It has been voted #4 in the top 500 northern soul singles. It did chart at#27 in the US in 1968.
The horns were arranged by Marty Paich who had worked with Peggy Lee, Ella, Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich ans Mel Torme. His son David Paich was a founding member the group Toto.
One of my all time favourite tracks played here on the original Soul City label cat no. 767.
